What is the Thunder Tour?

The Thunder tour is the ultimate road show held once a year. It is a 7 day road trip experience.  It consists of Muscle Cars, Street Rods, Rat Rods and Super Cars, mainly V8’s.  The only 6 cylinder cars allowed are the flat 6 Porsche and GTR’s, as they are classified under Super Cars.

2021 is going to be our  11^th consecutive year. 

Each year the tour starts at Cars In The Park in Pretoria on the fist Sunday of August.  Every year we head-off in a different direction.

In every town where we overnight, we either have a one hour show in the afternoon or the morning, to show the people in town the cars, and on route we meet private collectors.  We organize with these collectors who do not normally show off their collections to the public, to share their beautiful collections with the Thunder Tour.

On the last day of the tour – normally the Saturday, we arrange a car show  for the midday and we enjoy our prize giving dinner in the evening.

The Thunder Tour is based on the successful principles of the Power Tour in America.  The difference between the Thunder Tour and the Power Tour is that The Power Tour  does not allow Super Cars, only Street Rods and Muscle Cars.   The Power Tour also does not start at the same place every year, they normally start in the town where they ended the previous year and drive +/- 1500 miles (2414) km.

Day 1: Pretoria to Parys,

Day 2: Parys to Bloemfontein,

Day 3: Bloemfontein to Graaff-Reinet,

Day 4: Graaff-Reinet to George

Day 5: George to Montagu

Day 6: Montagu to Cape Town (Bloubergstrand)

Day 7: Cape Town for the final show and shine and the big prize giving dinner.
